In a small Fayette County community, parents gathered to dream of a school that would provide excellence in education with a focus upon Christian values, and from that meeting Fayette Academy was established. After much dedication and sacrifice, Fayette Academy opened its doors in the fall of 1965 with 100 students in grades 1-8. The school site was purchased in 1966, and on January 1, 1967, students in grades 1-12 were moved from houses in Somerville to the new building where the campus stands today. Fayette Academy continues to evolve and to prepare students as lifelong learners and productive citizens.
For more than 57 years, Fayette Academy has served as an educational pillar in our community, providing our students with the tools they need to discover their unique God-given purpose and the confidence to pursue it. More people are taking notice – and the demand for a Fayette Academy education and experience continues to grow.
With the current level of enrollment growth over the past several years, school leadership saw areas of opportunity for expansion. With enrollment now at 594 students, there is a great interest in this expansion for our students.
In the spring of 2022, we embarked on a feasibility study in conjunction with the J.F. Smith Group, a fund-raising consulting firm. The study tested several projects that we felt would assist us in achieving our future goals. During this process, our constituency base agreed and indicated that the time is now for a capital campaign.
As a result of the study’s findings, the Board of Trustees has initiated Build. Grow. Inspire: A Capital Campaign for Fayette Academy. With a goal of $1,795,000, the campaign will give all parents, grandparents, alumni, alumni parents, friends, faculty and staff the opportunity to invest in our bold plan to build, grow and inspire our great school and the families we serve for generations to come.
In order to attract families and grow our school, Fayette Academy must add classroom space. To address this, a new addition to the Day High School Building will include five classrooms as well as new restrooms and storage. With additional classroom space in the Upper School, the majority of upper school students will be housed in one location, and other buildings can be reallocated for middle and lower school, which in turn will allow for enrollment growth.
Campus enhancements will include painting and brick skirting to all lower campus buildings and the performing arts/band hall building, bricked columns to the administration building and renovations that mirror the Viking Center, new windows and siding to the Little School House, and wrought iron fencing, brick columns and locking gates added to west campus. Additionally, we will include new flooring, painting, storage and a covered walkway for the performing arts/band hall.
Our female athletes need a space to store their gear and dress before games and practices. Plans include a new girls’ locker room with at least 25 lockers and a restroom as an addition to the Power House facility. Also, the current press box is in a state of disarray. We will build a new press box that will have ample space for coaches from both teams and an observation deck that will allow a full view of the field. The new press box will provide a more functional facility with WiFi, improved sound system and storage.
