About the Gardens
Mary Margaret’s Garden was designed by Fayette Academy students and biology instructors in 2005 and named in memory of Senior Mary Margaret Pilcher. Students designed the five separate garden areas: Wings of Wonder Garden that attracts beneficial insects to support the other gardens; Mystic Sands Garden, a garden with plants indigenous to Japan with Mary Margaret’s mother’s favorite Marachino Cherry tree beautifully centered and with a magnificent sandstone rock, native to Fayette County; Serenity Falls is the small pond and stream that serves as home to frogs, tadpoles, and fish, and the gazebo donated by the Pilcher family; the Flames of Wonder garden which transformed into a fire pit and nighttime sky viewing platform; and the Action Garden, which is now Bee’s Bounty Garden with 19 raised beds and compost stations that grow fresh vegetables, herbs, and numerous plants and supply fresh, clean food to more than 30 families in Fayette County.
