Former Student Honored as “Nurse of the Month” by WREG News Channel 3

Fayette Academy is proud to announce that Sophie Umbarger, a graduate of the Class of 2019,
has been recognized as “Nurse of the Month” by WREG News Channel 3. This prestigious honor
highlights nurses across the region who demonstrate exceptional dedication, compassion, and
commitment to patient care.


A registered nurse at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, Sophie serves in
the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), where they provide specialized, lifesaving care to the
hospital’s most vulnerable patients. Selected through a public nomination process, Sophie was
recognized for consistently going above and beyond in their role, delivering compassionate care
to infants and support to their families during critical moments.

compassion exemplify the very best of our graduates and the nursing profession.”
Since graduating in 2019, Sophie has distinguished herself through her commitment to
excellence in neonatal care, making a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and families
each day. Her recognition by WREG serves as a testament to both her hard work and the vital
role nurses play in healthcare.
